From Milan to Astana, Jakarta to Huzhou……YICGG2023 is around the corner! This summer, the competition is finally back to offline and will begin its story in Dali, Yunnan Province, China, and we are looking forward to having you on this journey with us.
The Youth Innovation Competition on Global Governance (YICGG) was jointly launched by Fudan University and UNDP in 2007. It has since then been organized by the School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) of Fudan University. As a platform for communication with global youth and creation of innovative ideas in global issues, it welcomes youth from all over the world to jointly seek a new chapter in the field of global governance.
In the past years, YICGG has brought together more than 2000 outstanding students from 96 countries and regions to present their ideas to professional researchers. "YICGG is a great platform to communicate with global youth leaders and to be innovative in global issues," said Mahoney Turnbull, YICGG2013 participant, who took part in United Nations Climate Change Conference as a Youth Summit delegate.
Former judge Iveta Reinholde, Associate Professor, School of Social Sciences, University of Latvia shared her impression of the YICGG: "YICGG is essentially about talking to each other, sharing ideas and sharing experiences ...... Now we need young bright minds to come up with creative ideas to solve global challenges. "
This year, with the theme of "Global Biodiversity: Youth Involvement and Initiatives", YICGG2023 starts its journey in Yunnan, a southwest Chinese province. Here we can discover rich natural resources from mountain peaks to river valleys and the largest diversity of plant life in China. The competition cordially invites young people from around the world to think of innovative solutions and propose feasible governance frameworks around the theme of biodiversity, so that we can put on a path to recovery by 2030 at the latest, towards the full realization of the 2050 Vision of "Living in Harmony with Nature".
In the overall procedure, YICGG features an optional part "Ignite Talk" for the participants. Applicants are required to submit their Talk outlines focusing on their chosen topics. 20 applicants will be selected by the judges to share their insights in the Talk. The most impressive participant will be honored with the individual award "The Ignite Talk King/Queen (ITK/ITQ)".
Participants will experience more interesting sessions in YICGG——the "We Youth Common Agenda" aims at setting off a frenzy of discussion among the participants, through which common initiatives and consensus would be formalized on our theme of biodiversity. In "World Café", the World Teams engage in round-table discussions under the guidance of judges, focusing on proposals developed within the finalist theme. Furthermore, fun events such as "Culture Night" and "Field Trip" will all provide participants with unforgettable memories in Yunnan.
YICGG values young people’s passion on global issues. With face-to-face discussions in the spirit of science, YICGG encourages critical and logical thinking in order to help young people produce more innovative proposals with high academic value and practical significance. It is a stage for youth where ideas meet.
